Police later identified the attacker as Zach Stacy, 31, a former player for the St. Louis Rams. When the woman tried to leave, he smashed a trash can against her car to stop her from driving away.
The case sparked widespread public outrage once it went public. Stacy was sentenced to one month in jail for assault and criminal mischief.

His wife later said in an interview that she did not want him kept behind bars.
"No one wants the father of their child to go to jail," she said.
